My friend Mark Strong’s new band Key and the Crook (also featuring Jon Burkhart from At the Stars and Daniel Medley from Mark’s old band We Know, Plato!) just released their debut single “Away from the City.”
I’m digging it, and you can dig it too if you pick it up at iTunes.

In case you’re keeping tabs on me but haven’t re-read the copy on my music home page (who does?) over the past week or so, here’s what I’m up to in order of priority:
- Project w/Mandie: My friend Amanda Hillary has been helping me with demos for over a year now and we’ve decided that it’s stupid not to join forces and songs in what will prove to be the greatest collaboration since Bad English. I love Mandie’s voice and songwriting and look forward to whatever we’re going to do together, the details of which will be posted here sometime after we make them up.
- Side project: I’ve got a slew of songs that probably won’t work for my project with Mandie; I’ll be using these in a serious side project that will probably turn out to be pretty cool in its own right.
- Side side project: There’s also a decent chance I’ll put together some instrumental recordings for a low-key third project.
That’s all I got to say fer now.

Mark Strong (credited elsewhere for contributing to my demos) and I have been friends since the days of Pangaea, in large part because of our shared musical interests. However, he’s done way more with his talents than I have with mine, and his new blog documents most of it. There you can read about, among other past projects, his excellent bands We Know, Plato! and Make Phantoms (the latter of which put out one of my favorite albums). Better yet, you can keep tabs on Mark’s current activities and new projects. Having heard some of what he’s been working on lately, I can assure you that great stuff is coming down the ‘pike and that it’s in your interest to drop by his blog regularly.
